Dear all,

some papers on an alternative model to neural networks : the
mixtures-of-experts model. It may also be interesting to look
at the DELVE archive of datasets and results of different models
at http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~delve.

At Ultimode Systems we also have experience with both neural networks
and other statistical techniques.
