DM: CFP-Parallel and Distributed Computing and Networks (PDCN'98)From: Li Shen Date: Tue, 5 May 1998 01:47:56 -0400 (EDT)
The Second International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing and Networks (PDCN'98) December 14-16, 1998, Brisbane, Australia Sponsored by International Association of Science and Technology for Development (IASTED) PURPOSE ======= The International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing and Networks (PDCN), sponsored by IASTED, is a major forum for scientists, engineers, and practitioners throughout the world to present the latest research, results, ideas, development, and applications in all areas of parallel and distributed computing. PDCN'98 will be held in Brisbane, Australia, and will include keynote addresses, contributed papers, tutorials, and workshops. LOCATION ======== Brisbane is the capital of the sunshine state of Queensland - Australia's premier holiday state. Fresh, clean and inviting, Brisbane offers visitors the best of both worlds - a modern, dynamic and sophisticated city and the gateway to South-East Queensland's most spectacular natural attractions. Australia's most popular tourist destination - Gold Coast (and Sunshine Coast) is just within an hour's drive from Brisbane. Rainforest national parks, beach resorts, the islands of Moreton Bay, Fraser Island and even Australia's famous Great Barrier Reef lie in easy range of the city. SCOPE ===== The main focus for PDCN'98 will be parallel and distributed computing and networks viewed from the three perspectives of networks and architectures, software systems, and algorithms and applications. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following: Networks and Architectures -------------------------- * Interconnection networks * Computer networks * Parallel/distributed architectures * Communication and telecommunication * Heterogeneous and multimedia Systems * Wireless networks and mobile computing * ATM networks * Optical networks * Reliability and fault-tolerance * Security Software Systems ---------------- * Operating systems * Programming languages * Parallel programming paradigms * Parallelizing compilers * Distributed data and knowledge based systems * Object Oriented Technology * Modelling and simulation * Performance evaluation and measurements * Tools and environments for software development * Visualization Algorithms and Applications --------------------------- * Parallel/distributed algorithms * Resource allocation and management * Load sharing and balancing * Task mapping and job scheduling * Network routing and communication algorithms * Neural networks * Image processing and computer graphics * Database applications and data maining * High-performance scientific computing * Biological/molecular computing General Co-Chairs ================= Gopal Gupta James Cook University (Australia) Paul Pritchard Griffith University (Australia) Program Chair ============= Hong Shen Griffith University (Australia) Program Vice-Chairs =================== Bruce Maggs Carnagie-Mellon University (USA) Si-Qing Zheng Louisiana Sate University (USA) Albert Zomaya University of Western Australia (Australia) Program Committee ================= David Abramson Monash University (Australia) Sudhir Aggarwal Bell Laboratories (USA) Hamid R. Papers will be selected based on their originality, timeliness, significance, relevance, and clarity of presentation. Accepted and presented papers will be published in the conference proceedings. Submissions should include an abstract, key words, the fax number and e-mail address of the corresponding author, and must not exceed 15 pages, including tables and figures. Submission of a paper should be regarded as an undertaking that, should the paper be accepted, at least one of the authors will attend the conference to present the work. Submissions to PDCN'98 will be conducted electronically, and should be sent in standard Postscript format to pdcn98@cit.gu.edu.au by the submission deadline. Authors unable to access e-mail may send 4 hard copies of their papers to the program chair: Hong Shen School of Computing and Information Technology Griffith University Nathan, QLD 4111 Australia Phone: (61)7-38755028 Fax: (61)7-38755051 Email: hong@cit.gu.edu.au Tutorials/Workshops =================== Workshops and half-day tutorials are being planned for PDCN'98. Each workshop will focus on a particular topic, and consists of several presentations and open discussion. A one-page abstract of each workshop presentation will be published in the conference proceedings. The proposal for a workshop should include the title, topics covered, proposed/invited speakers, and estimated length (hours) of the workshop. Each tutorial proposal should provide the title, topics, targeted audiences, and instructor's biography. Anyone wishing to organize a workshop or tutorial should submit a proposal to the program chair at the address given above by June 1, 1998.
