DM: Simulation Short CourseFrom: Cunningham, Scott W Date: Thu, 14 May 1998 16:46:01 -0400 (EDT) COMPUTER SIMULATION-MODELING FOR LOGISTICS & SERVICE INDUSTRY APPLICATIONS Synopsis: --------- This course focuses on effective modeling analysis of complicated processes through the use of computer simulation. It is designed for the many potential simulation users in the real world. The instructors will take you step-by-step through all of the key ideas of computer simulation. Along the way, they will explain the mathematical and statistical concepts you need to perform a valid simulation study. A practical, hands-on approach is taken, and each concept is supplemented with relevant examples from Arena, a popular, easy-to-use simulation package featuring the latest graphical animation capabilities. Attendees are encouraged to bring modeling problems that they have encountered on-the-job. The class will be offered June 1-3, 1998 at the main campus of Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia. Anyone involved in the following areas is encouraged to attend: * Industrial Engineering and Systems Analysis * Operations Research * Hospital Planning * Financial Analysis * Warehousing and Distribution * Materials Distribution Planning * Just-In-Time and Quick Response Implementation * Total Quality Management * Process Manufacturing Course Topics: * Introduction * Process-Interaction Modeling * Probability and Statistics Review * Modeling Complex Queueing Systems * Input Modeling-Choosing the Correct Probability Distributions * Generating Random Variables and Arrival Processes * Output Analysis for a Single System * Finding the Best System Configuration * Manufacturing Applications and Case Studies * Choosing the Right Simulation Package Instructors: Christos Alexopoulos and David Goldsman, School of ISyE, Georgia Tech John S.
