                     II Symposium on Artificial Intelligence

FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS (Extended Dateline)

Adaptive Systems

March 22-26, 1999
To be held at the International Conference Center of Havana, Cuba.

PURPOSE OF THE SYMPOSIUM

In recent years, the applications of Adaptive Methods in Artificial
intelligence have been extended thanks to the development of new
fields,
such as Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic and Genetic Algorithms. The
possibility of accurate modelling of complex problems permitted by
these
new tools allows an approach to new applications of artificial
intelligence in control theory, robotics, signal processing and even
business, financial planning management, damage assessment, security,
and so on.

The main aim of this symposium is to bring together theorists from
different field of Adaptive Systems research and people working in
applicative areas, in order to state the current state of the research
and applications of Adaptive Systems and make the basis for rewarding
co-operation in the area.

SPECIAL SESSION ON DISTRIBUTIONS AND EVOLUTIONARY OPTIMIZATION

Following the growing interest of the evolutionary computation
community
on nonlinear interactions issues and recent proposal of using
probabilistic models and distributions to approach this problems. See
for example the paper:

"Schemata, Distributions and Graphical Models in Evolutionary
Optimization"
  Heinz Muhlenbein and Alberto Ochoa.
  http://set.gmd.de/AS/ga/publi-neu.html#index

We have decided to organize a special session on Distributions and
Evolutionary Optimization. Prospective authors are requested to send
papers on this topic. Tutorial papers and demonstrations are also
encouraged.

SYMPOSIUM ORGANIZER

The Institute of Cybernetics, Mathematics and Physics ( ICIMAF ).

HONORARY CHAIR

Dr. Heinz M|hlenbein, Germany.

SYMPOSIUM CHAIR

Dr. Alberto A. Ochoa.
Center of Artificial Intelligence.
Calle 15 No. 551 e/ C y D.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Prospective authors are requested to send an extended abstract of 1500
words for review by the International Scientific Committee. All
abstracts must be written in English, starting with a succinct
statement of the problem, the results achieved, their significance
and
a comparison with previous work. If authors believe that more details

are necessary to substantiate the main claims of the paper, they may
include a clearly marked appendix that will be read at the discretion
of
the International Scientific Committee.

The abstract should also include:
-Title of symposium
-Title of proposed paper
-Authors names, affiliations, addresses
-Name of author to contact for correspondence
-E-mail address and fax number of contact author
-Keyword, which best describe the paper

Contributions are welcome from those working in industry and having
experience in the topics of this conference as well as from academics.
The conference language is English. Tutorial papers and demonstrations
are also encouraged.

Abstracts have to be submitted only by electronic mail (ASCII text) to
ochoa@cidet.icmf.inf.cu.
Please be sure to use subject: CIMAF'99.

SUBMISSION- DEADLINE

It is the intention of the organizers to have the conference
proceedings
available for the delegates. Consequently, the submission deadlines
have
to be strictly respected.

Submissions sent after the final date will be considered for
participation at the conference but will not be included in the
proceedings.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM

Will include invited plenary talks contributed sessions, invited
sessions, and demonstrations. Various projects are in preparation,
respectively under consideration.
Anyone wishing to organize a session or discussion, is requested to
contact the general chairman or the symposium organizer before October
30, 1998.

INVITED SESSIONS

Prospective organizers of invited sessions are requested to send a
session proposal (consisting of 4-5 invited paper abstracts, the
recommended session chair and co-chair, as well as a short statement
describing the title and the purpose of the session) to the Symposium
Chairman or the Symposium Organizer. All invited sessions should start
with a tutorial paper.

DEMONSTRATIONS SESSIONS

Instead of submitting a paper, proposals for 20 minute demonstration
of
a practical application can also be submitted. The proposal should
follow the abstract submission guidelines. Only the abstract of the
demonstration will be included in the conference proceedings.

PUBLICATION OF PAPERS

Conference proceedings will be published and be available for the
delegates at the conference in printed form.
Authors of a selected number of innovative papers may be invited to
submit extended manuscripts for journal publication.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

The social program (also available for accompanying persons) features
an
excursion to the most beautiful spots on the island, including a
special
dinner and entertainment.
