Zadeh (UC Berkeley, USA) Philip Yu (IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, USA) Setsuo Arikawa (Kyushu University, Japan) The Seventh International Workshop on Rough Sets, Fuzzy Sets, Data Mining, and Granular-Soft Computing (RSFDGrC'99) will provide an international forum for the sharing of original research results and practical development experiences among experts in these emerging fields. An important feature of the workshop is to stress the integration of intelligent information techniques. That is, promoting deep fusion of these emerging techniques in AI, Soft Computing, and Database communities for solving real world, large, complex problems with uncertainty and fuzziness. In particular, fuzzy and rough set methods in data mining and granular computing. We also look for contributions in related fields that include, but are not limited to, the following areas: - Rough Set Theory and Its Applications - Fuzzy Set Theory and Its Applications - Data Mining and Data Warehousing - Knowledge Creation and Discovery - Information Granulation and Granular Computing - Computing with Words - Machine Learning - Neural Networks - Evolutionary Computing - Probabilistic and Statistical Reasoning - Approximate Reasoning - Uncertainty Management - Non-Classical Logic and Set Theories - Database Reverse Engineering - Data and Dimensionality Reduction - Deep Fusion of Computational and Symbolic Processing - Intelligent Information Retrieval - Information Discovery on the Internet - Decision Support Systems - Hybrid and Integrated Intelligent Systems - Intelligent Agent and Multi-Agent Systems - Soft Computing and Its Applications Both research and application papers are solicited. All submitted papers will be reviewed on the basis of technical quality, relevance, significance, and clarity. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings by Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence series (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/index.html). A selected number of RSFDGrC'99 accepted papers will be expanded and revised for inclusion in ``Knowledge and Information Systems: An International Journal'' (Springer-Verlag, http://kais.mines.edu/~kais/), or ``Fundamenta Informaticae'' (IOS Press, http://alfa.mimuw.edu.pl/FI/). Please submit Four (4) hardcopies of a paper (a maximum of ten (10) single-spaced, single-column pages including all figures, tables, and bibliography) to be received by May 20, 1999. A cover page must include author(s) full address, email, paper title and a 200 word abstract, and up to 5 keywords. This cover page must accompany the paper. In addition, an ASCII version of the cover page must be submitted electronically to ``zhong@ai.csse.yamaguchi-u.ac.jp'' by May 20, 1999. Please follow the instructions supplied by Springer-Verlag when preparing your manuscript (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/Authors.html). LaTeX2e, LaTeX, TeX, and Microsoft Word Macros for preparing your manuscript are available. Please use the style files provided by Springer-Verlag for Proceedings and Other Multi-Author Volumes in preparing your manuscripts (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/Authors.html#Proceedings). Please mail the Four (4) hardcopies of the full papers to: Prof. Ning Zhong (RSFDGrC'99) Department of Computer Science and Systems Engineering Faculty of Engineering, Yamaguchi University Tokiwa-Dai 2-16-1, Ube 755-8611, Japan Telephone & Fax: +81-836-35-9949 Email: zhong@ai.csse.yamaguchi-u.ac.jp *************** I m p o r t a n t D a t e s ***************** * 4 copies of full papers received by: May 20, 1999 * * Acceptance notices: July 1, 1999 * * Camera-readies due by: August 5, 1999 * * Conference: November 8-10, 1999 * *************************************************************** CONFERENCE ORGANIZATION ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Honorary Chairs: ================ Zdzislaw Pawlak (Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland) L.A. Yamaguchi which is noted for its natural beauty, is the seat of the prefectural administration and is a center of education as well with many historic sites and cultural facilities. Yamaguchi can be reached by train in six hours from Tokyo, in three hours from Osaka (Kansai International Airport) and in one hour from Fukuoka. Ube, which lies 40 km to the southwest of Yamaguchi, is a coastal city with much industry. It can be reached in 90 minutes by air from Tokyo (Haneda Airport). Ube and the neighboring areas are expected to further develop into an industrial conurbation with highly advanced technology. CONFERENCE FEE ============== The early registration fee of 50,000 JPY and 40,000 JPY for students, will include the hotel room charge, breakfasts, lunches and dinners during the workshop (three days), refreshments in coffee breaks, and the proceedings. HOW TO GET TO YAMAGUCHI-UBE =========================== Basically there are five ways to Yamaguchi-Ube: (1) Kansei Int. Airport (Osaka) --> Shin Osaka Station (by airport express (Haruka) about one hour) --> Ogori Station (by high speed train (Shinkansen) about 2.5 hours) (the hotel bus picks up you at Ogori Station) --> Yamaguchi-Ube (Yamaguchi Resort Center) (about 30 minutes). The cost of Kansei Int. Airport to Ogori Station is about 13,000 Japanese yen. (2) Fukuoka Int. Airport (Fukuoka) --> Ogori Station (by high speed train about 40 minutes) (the hotel bus picks up you at Ogori Station) --> Yamaguchi-Ube (Yamaguchi Resort Center) (about 30 minutes).
