RE: DM: Data Mining CourseFrom: Sandy Hill Date: Wed, 10 May 2000 14:54:46 -0500 By now, you may have already found a Data Mining course that suits you. However, I think a few others on this list asked to be informed of any courses that use practical applications to illustrate data prep, compare various methods and tools, and review results interpretation. I occassionally see data mining course announcements by software vendors, but I recently came across a link at KDNuggets that points to what seems to be a very thorough vendor neutral course (two-levels actually: first is introductory/broad topics and second is a drill-down). It looks like they use multiple tools to illustrate methods and compare results - by a company called The Modeling Agency. I think you were looking for a distance learning version. I did see one course offered via the web there, but I believe the data mining courses are held in conference rooms around the nation. Anyway, if you're curious for the details, you'll find them at: http://www.the-modeling-agency.com/training - Sandy -----Original Message----- From: owner-datamine-l@nautilus-sys.com [mailto:owner-datamine-l@nautilus-sys.com]On Behalf Of Mac Johnstone To: datamine-l@nautilus-sys.com Subject: DM: Data Mining Course Hello All: Does anyone know of a data mining university course that is offered via distance learning? None of the universities here in Raleigh, NC -- NC State, Duke, and UNC -- have such a course. I have a Masters from NCSU and have taken basic courses in statistics and machine learning. I have read widely and studied DM. Now I need practical knowledge from someone with experience, especially in results interpretation and in using multiple tools to analyze a problem. I would appreciate your input. Mac Johnstone
