DM: Performance improvement with distributed data.

From: Fernanda Baiao
Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2000 13:50:02 -0600 (CST)

I am a PhD dissertator working with Theory Refinement techniques in the
domain of Distributed Databases.

As part of my dissertation, I am looking for examples of applications
where the use of data distribution (that is, partitioning information
and storing it in different disks in a network) was able to
significantly improve their performance. I have been searching for it a
lot, but most applications I was able to find were only "toy examples"
that may not be representative of real applications.

If you know about any real application in the market, experimental study
or benchmark result using distributed data, or if you just want to
discuss it a little further, please contact me.

I am aware that many companies may not be willing to reveal their data
for security issues, but what I need is only some information on *how* the
data was distributed, rather than the data itself, so I hope this will not
be a problem.

Thank you very much for your time and effort,
Fernanda Baiao
