DM: RE: On-The-Fly creation of website content. From: Wiertz, Martijn Date: Thu, 3 Aug 2000 15:52:18 +0100 Hi Signet, There are probably two sides to this story and one of them is very much related to data mining. Of course there are systems that deliver the content, i.e. software that assembles all necessary information from a database and fills some sort of template to display it, for example Vignette. The other part is finding out what to display in the first place; what is the most appropriate content in a given situation. In the case of a search query that is relatively straight-forward. If you talk about personalizing webpage for commercial reasons however, then data mining can add. Currently most systems work with business rules a la 'If someone comes to my website via an ISP in a certain city, I will only show our locations in that area' or with, if you talk about product recommendations, relative simple database queries to find what 'other people who bought this product' also bought. You can improve these personalizations by using all data about the customer, about their earlier purchases, about their off- and on-line behavior etc., in short: data mining. SPSS has been working with customers, using on- and off-line data for better personalization at web-sites and other touchpoints. Check out www.spss.com/customercentric and specifically http://www.spss.com/customercentric/drive.htm for more information. hope this is more than just vaguely related :-) cheers Martijn Wiertz SPSS -----Original Message----- From: Signet Admin [mailto:admin@signet.net.au] Sent: donderdag 3 augustus 2000 14:47 To: 'datamine-l@nautilus-sys.com' Subject: DM: On-The-Fly creation of website content. Greetings all, My post relates to a topic that is not datamining in the sense we all understand it, but I have read other discussions that bordered on the subject and received invitations to conferences that touched upon it through my subscription to this list. The topic is on-the-fly creation of web site content. For those not familiar with the meaning, think of it in terms of search engine results. You give the search engine your query terms and it presents you with pages constructed from query matches and links to affiliates who have purchased the search terms you used etc. The pages have been created "on-the-fly". Can anyone point me to some resources that deal with the state of the art and current limitations? Actually, point me towards anything vaguely related and I'll be quite pleased. If you work for a company specialising in it, I'd be happy to hear from you as well. Thanks for your time. Neil Dwyer Market Information Signet Pty Ltd, Australia.
