Kristin Bennett (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute)was an early researcher of an important new class of methods now known as support vector machines. For the past ten years she has been investigating support vector machines and other mathematical programming based methods for machine learning and data mining problems. She will present an intuitive geometric-based overview of support vector machines. Dr. Bennett is an Associate Professor of Mathematical Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She is an active researcher in the knowledge discovery and data mining, machine learning, neural network, and operations research communities.
